The nearest training to Olive this year will be at First Baptist Church in Marianna, Florida, on June 22, 2013. This training is for new volunteers and for those needing recertification. Recertification is required for all volunteers every three years. Registration starts at 8:30am with training from 9:00am–3:00pm. The first-time volunteer registration fee is $30 per person. The returning volunteer registration fee is $15 per person. This fee is to help offset some of the costs. There Is no pre-registration. Participants will receive a disaster relief shirt & hat, an ID badge, training material, instruction, and lunch for attending.
New volunteers will only be able to train in one ministry area on the day of the event. If your certification is up-to-date or you are recertifying and you would like to get training in another ministry area, it may be possible to train in two different areas the day of event, one in the morning and one after lunch. Disaster ministry areas of training will include: Mass Feeding, Cleanup & Recovery, Administration, Temporary Childcare, Emergency Response Team, Logistics, and Spiritual Care.
We have two church vans reserved for those who would like transportation. Anyone who wants to become a new volunteer in the Florida Baptist Disaster Ministry or any previously trained volunteer who wants additional training or needs to retrain (volunteers must retrain every three years).
Emergency management officials now require all volunteers to be credentialed by an organization like ours before they are allowed to work in a disaster response area. Our training is designed to meet these requirements and prepare volunteers to do effective ministry when called upon.
