Fall is here! The cool air brings bonfires and football! We are heading into our holiday season and look forward to a great end of the year. The middle school students have much to look forward to:

BAM and HIS – you are meeting at the church at 5:00pm this Sunday, Oct. 28 and are going to Mitch and Deanna Lambeth’s home. We are going for; you guessed it, a bonfire and footballJ. If you have signed up for anything (food, drinks, etc) make sure you bring it. If you don’t know what I am talking about, it’s ok, just bring yourself. We will return to the church at 8:00pm that night.

Fusion – Wednesday, the 31st of October, our theme for the night is Conqueror. We will have a contest to see who is the best dressed conqueror or hero. It must be church appropriate and it cannot be any villain or anything dark. It can be anyone you know today or someone in history. “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:37

It’s important to know that as a middle school department, we do all to the glory of God. It is our goal in everything we do “To Glorify God and Edify One Another.” I constantly remind the students of this purpose. So whether we eat or drink or play, it is all a part of our worship to God. Worship is our lifestyle!

Kelly and I had an amazing trip! I wish I could recap all that we saw and experienced. From Rome to Venice to the Amalfi Coast, we hiked Italy until our legs gave out. Thank you for your prayer as we discovered new lands and very very old lands. Finally to say, there’s no place like home!

On our return, we hit the ground running as the Middle School Fall Retreat; “The Resistance” is this weekend, Oct. 12-14. It is going to be one exciting weekend! We meet out front of Passmore Hall on Friday and leave at 5:30pm. We stay all day Saturday and return to Olive at 2:30pm on Sunday.

Things to bring:
Bible, sleeping bag or sheets/blanket, pillow,
Bath and beach towels, toiletries, sunscreen,
Swimsuit (girls: 1 piece or tankini), casual clothes,
Light jacket/hoodie, a few dollars for drinks and snacks
Camouflage clothes for our Saturday night of champions. Best attire wins a prize!

Things not to bring: Skate or surf board, prank stuff, ipod, ipad (it’s a retreat from this stuff:)
If you need to bring a phone, leave it in the cabin and only use it at night to call your parents.

Finally, there are no BAM and HIS Bibles Studies Sunday night Oct. 14 due to the return from Fall Retreat.

Kelly and I are so grateful to be a part of such an amazing group of students and leaders. The school year has begun with a bang! Many exciting new faces and many exciting things to do. Each department has a back to school party planned:

  • The 7th grade party is tomorrow, Sept. 15, from 11:00am to 4:00pm.Meet in Rousseau Hall.
  • The 6th grade party is Sunday, Sept. 16 after church from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Meet in Rousseau Hall.
  • Also on the 16th after church from 12:30pm to 1:30pm is an 8th grade parent luncheon. The 8th grade directors and teachers want to host a lunch to meet with parents of their students.
  • The 8th grade party is Sept. 23 after church from 12:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Finally, the deadline for Fall Retreat (The Resistance) is Sept. 30th. The cost is $60. It will be in Panama City Beach, FL from Oct. 12-14.

The reason for all the information on one blog is because Kelly and I are going to Italy for 2 weeks. If you have any questions, please give Mrs. Sandy Fones a call at 475-1143. We look forward to seeing everyone when we return.

*Thank you again for your hugs and congratulations after our big announcement last week. Yes, Kelly and I are expecting our first baby! The baby is due March 14, 2013 (3.14=π or Pi). So, until we find out if it’s a boy or girl, we’re calling it Pi. Please be in prayer with us as we begin our parenting journey.*

Here in Pensacola everything is back on track. Parents are back to work, students are back to school, and people are back to routines. Please remember those in New Orleans as we go about our business. Though they are out of sight, may they not be out of mind. I have reports from my Seminary in NO that they have minimal damage on campus, but everyone in the community is out of power until at least Sunday, maybe Monday. But I’m sure there are still many families that Isaac affected dramatically- damaged cars, houses, sheds, yards, work, etc. The best thing we can do is pray. Pray for God’s glory to be revealed and for the healing of those in need. And if God gives us an opportunity to go, go; lend a hand, pass out water, or cut down a tree. But it starts with prayer!

9:30am SSCG
8th grade is meeting downstairs Rousseau Hall.
6th Grade is meeting upstairs in 7204.
7th grade is staying in the same spot.

Hello middle school family. Due to Tropical Storm Isaac and his unpredictable ways, we are cancelling all Wednesday night events. Yes, that includes Fusion. We continue to pray for the dissipation of Isaac…which I hear it hasn’t strengthened in the last 12 hours! But, in case it does make impact near Pensacola, please take care of yourselves and continue to pray for the Lord’s glory to be revealed no matter what happens. I love you guys and I’ll see you Sunday.

Keep in mind for Sunday:
9:30am SSCG
8th grade is meeting downstairs Rousseau Hall.
6th Grade is meeting upstairs in 7204.
7th grade is staying in the same spot.

Join the Team! Wear your middle school, high school, college, or pro colors this Sunday. If you don’t have a team, wear Blue Wahoos apparel. Go Pensacola!! Also, take the time to invite your friends to church. But don’t just invite them to big church, invite them to small group. Small groups are where we connect. Small groups are at 8:00am and 9:30am. It is a time of fellowship, Bible study and ministry. Come, join the team!

A little change for Middle School this Sunday:
8th grade SSCG is meeting downstairs Rousseau Hall.
6th Grade is meeting upstairs in 7204.
7th grade is staying in the same spot.

Make the Move! Sunday is the day of moving. Moving grades, moving classes, promoting up! I want to say WELCOME to our new 6th grade students. Moving to middle school is an exciting step. The step that brings new faces, new places, and new challenges is finally here (you’ve been waiting all summer). Please know that I am praying for you and looking forward to knowing you. Sunday you will begin your journey in upstairs Rousseau Hall in room 7200.

As the 6th grade students arrive wide eyed and full of expectations, the 8th grade students are leaving, also in anticipation of what’s to come. They are entering into a new and exciting time in life…high school! I will miss this class. It’s the first class I had the honor of having during their entire middle school experience, 6th through 8th grade. Their class brought excitement and unity to our ministry. They were a blessing to my wife and I. And though I am sad to see them go, I look forward to seeing what God is going to do with this group!

Summer is a great time to hang out with friends and go on exciting adventures. The middle school students here at Olive do this well… 8th grade students have their weekly Bible study at the Wilson’s this week. They are hanging out and exploring God’s word together. If you need more information, give Mrs. Sandy a call at 475-1143.

Then, the next middle school Monday Madness is July 9th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The middle School ministry, Fusion, invite the upcoming 6th grade students to join them in the madness. They meet in Rousseau Hall and end in Rousseau Hall… what happens in between is simply madness!

Finally, SL Camp is just around the corner. We are going to Samford University in Birmingham. If you are registered, the payment deadline is this Sunday, July 1st. Please see Mrs. Sandy in the foyer.

Just a reminder, there is NO Fusion this week, NO Monday Madness on Monday July 2nd, and NO Fusion on Wednesday July 4th. See you Sunday, July 8th!

What an exciting weekend! Dnow MOOVed us!! “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” As a middle school body, we raised $2500 for missions. This money will be distributed to three areas: Pensacola, NYC, and Mexico. Our mission is to see the gospel spread locally, nationally and internationally.

Also, we packaged 100 care kits that will go to an orphanage in Mexico that our church has been a part of. We assembled 100 transient bags for those in need right here in Pensacola, FL. These bags are distributed by the Tender Hearts Caring Hands right here on Olive’s campus. It was very exciting to see these students MOOV!

Why is Christ the Center of Everything? John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” Jumping down to verse 14, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” Christ is the Creator God who brings us salvation! We stand in awe of who He is and what He has done. A quote by Thomas Brooks says, “Christ is the sun, and all the watches of our lives should be set by the dial of His motion.”

Coming up, Extreme Youth night! March 4 @ 5:00pm will begin the excitement. We are looking forward to an awesome time, but more importantly we are looking forward to seeing many come to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Come and bring a friend….or two!

Side Note: BAM and HIS are not happening this Sunday. We are resuming next Sunday, Feb. 12.

This Sunday we will be 40 days out from Adventure Weekend. The church, including the youth, will be praying and fasting as we move closer to the 50 hour weekend of evangelism! This weekend will be packed with special guests, fun events, and exciting give-a-ways. But all of the fun and excitement is for one purpose…to share Jesus Christ with a lost world. Please be in prayer about who you will bring to this event. The website you can send people to for more information is Our adventure begins with Jesus.

Quick note, guys who are going on the battleship (Jan. 20-21), please bring a sleeping bag (or sheets and blanket) and pillow. Food will be provided. See you there!
