Hola. On Thursday several members of the team visited with families that we had previously built small homes for. These families were given beautiful quilts made by the Olive Piecemakers quilters. The colorful quilts brought big smiles to the faces of these people who have so little. Thursday night we enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Louis. Afterward we went into the chapel with Mama Lupita and the older girls for worship. The girls ages 15 years and older prayed for us. Mama Lupita shared her story of how God called her to start the orphanage during extremely hard times. She told of how she chose to follow God even when it meant almost losing her freedom and her family. She often lacked the basic necessities of life and was told she would fail. That was thirty years ago.
We heard the testimonies of three of the girls. The heartbreaking stories of abuse, rejection, and hopelessness were told in a highly emotional way. In other words, tears of release were falling like rain. From them and us. The grace of God was also being released as these young women shared how they love God, their real father, who saved them. The scars these young women wear are deep and painful. God allows us to participate in their healing. They trust us and feel safe enough to share the most hurtful and personal aspects of their lives with us.
We have known some of them for three years now. They are family. It is exciting to see God mending these young precious people and how they confidently cast every burden to the Father. God delivers every day in their lives and they know it! . They love and trust God. It will be interesting to see how God moves in their lives as this group become young adults and begin facing the time when they are not in this environment.
Well, the time has come to pack it up and head back. Thank you for reading about our trip. I hope you have experienced a glimpse of what we do in Nuveo Laredo, Mexico. Please remember these folks in your prayers. Perhaps one day you can meet our friends here. They will bless you in a large way. We should be crossing the border sometime after lunch. That can be challenging, so pray for a quick crossing and safety on the drive home.
The Olive Team in Nuevo Laredo, MX
Greetings from the Olive Mission team at Casa Hogar Elim in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. We are settled in, working hard. and spending a lot of time with the children. Worship was held yesterday at the new church. Last night worship was held here at the orphanage. It is always powerful to witness the children's faithfulness and love for The Father. Their dependence on God and their confidence that He will provide is such a source of encouragement.
Every trip here is like a family reunion. It is cool how we have become so close that some of the children ask for our advice and counsel. It is truly an honor to stand in the gap for these precious ones. This is a hectic and busy place, but there is always time to hug, pray, sing, dance, play, etc. with these wonderful children. The blessing God allows us to receive from the people here outweighs our efforts ten-fold..
Keep us in your prayers.

"Casa Hogar Elim is an amazing place. The children and adults are so passionate about Jesus. Their worship is true, their belief is unshakable, and their faith is strong. Mama Lupita started the orphanage in her own home years ago. She says, “God can move mountains; big mountains.” She tells of a time when they ran out of milk. Mama Lupita prayed, “Lord, baby Cynthia needs milk,” and someone brought milk. Another time she wanted a block wall around the orphanage; there was just a chain link fence at the time. She prayed and asked God for blocks to build a wall. Because she believed He would provide, she had the chain link fence taken down. Her husband said she was crazy. She told him, “God will bring us the blocks.” The next morning a woman came and asked how many blocks they would need. I’ve been to Casa Hogar twice, and there is a big block wall surrounding the entire orphanage!
"Our team was able to join the children for church. On Wednesday night those babies get on their knees on a concrete floor and prayed for 30 minutes to an hour. They prayed for their parents, that God will protect them and that they will want to come visit them. These children then lifted their voice and their hands to Jehovah God with tears running down their faces as they praised Him.
"I’m so grateful that God has allowed me to witness His miracles there. I eagerly await our next trip."

Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord - Nov. 2008 Mexico Trip

"Before our arrival in Mexico last November I had prayed that God would prepare our hearts and help us to be all HE wanted us to be on mission. I am still amazed at how HE used the sweet children to increase my walk with Jesus – these children have so few of the material things that we do and sometimes little food – yet so much faith and trust in Jesus. To witness these little ones on their knees every day was so humbling – and it was very apparent that the Holy Spirit was working and protecting all at Casa Hogar Elim.
"I was told that at the end of some months there is no food – and MaMa Lupita gathers the children and tells them the situation and says “all we need is our knees” and they get on their knees on concrete floors and pray and ALWAYS within 2-3 hours someone arrives with beans/rice or some food. These children don’t have parents or families that can care for them but they have so much more with their faith and trust in Jesus……..they have joy and hope and they helped open the eyes of my heart. I thought before the trip they would want all we have ---- I want more of what they have…I am so thankful to Olive that such opportunities are made possible and hope that many folks will consider a mission trip – just be ready for your heart to be changed in the sweetest of ways."

“Being on mission through Olive provided me with a practical way to utilize my skills in Christ’s service. It opens my eyes to the suffering of the world and assures me that Christ indeed is the answer.”
