The Preschool Ministry at Olive is packed with exciting opportunities to help foster the budding faith of our littlest ones. We know that the seeds we plant today in the hearts of our children can one day blossom and develop into strong Disciples of Christ!
But other [seed] fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.– Matthew 13:8-9

Sunday School is offered year-round to all preschoolers on Sunday mornings at two different times: 8:00 and 9:30am. During this important hour, preschoolers begin to learn the biblical foundations that are so important to their spiritual development. Our older preschool classes utilize “The Gospel Project” curriculum by Lifeway which consists of a Bible story, music, prayer, and hands-on activities that reinforce the teaching aim.
It is our prayer that each child will develop what we call a “Happy Association” with church and God’s people so that a lifetime of learning and fellowship will be fostered early on. Romans 10:17 teaches us that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” We believe this truth wholeheartedly and know how vitally important it is to help parents plant the seeds of faith in the hearts of their children so that when the Holy Spirit convicts, they will be ready to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Worship Care is an integral part of our programming which follows the Sunday School hour each week. This vital ministry is a cooperative effort between parents and volunteers that provides extended care and teaching during both Sunday morning services at 9:30 and 11:00am. Each Worship Care class is composed of one lead teacher who is assisted by rotating volunteers.
Once every eight weeks, parents are scheduled to help during their worship hour while other volunteers are scheduled to serve at monthly or quarterly intervals, depending on their availability and preferences.
To become a Worship Care VIP (Volunteer in Preschool), please complete a Volunteer Application (pdf) which will be used by our staff to conduct a background screening.
The Preschool Ministry at Olive provides free childcare for a number of in-house activities including morning Bible studies, aerobics, and use of the ROC fitness room. Childcare classes are located in the Simmons’ building and the days and times of operation are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00am to noon. For a description of the Bible study classes offered each quarter, visit our Discipleship Classes page. For more information about activities in the Recreation Outreach Center, please call 475-1120.
In addition to these opportunities, we also provide complimentary childcare on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:00-8:30pm for parents utilizing the fitness room and for others who participate in Most Excellent Way, a support group for those who struggle with alcohol and drug dependency.

During the summer months on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm, preschoolers age 2 through Pre-K may participate in our Summer Bible Buddies program. Using the “Play and Worship” curriculum by Group Publishing, children will learn many lifelong favorite Bible stories that will challenge and delight their hearts. Because preschoolers learn best when they utilize all of their senses, art, music, blocks, and recreation are also incorporated to complement the teaching time.
“Oops, Your Manners are Showing!” is a delightful Scripture-based etiquette program designed for two year olds through Pre-K children. Offered during the summer months on Sunday nights at 6 pm, this ministry teaches the importance of table manners, phone etiquette, hospitality, and much, much more! Rooted in God’s Word, each lesson features a Bible story that serves as a springboard for application and modern-day examples. This summer course is a favorite among parents and preschoolers alike!
The Bible teaches in James 1:17 that “Every good and perfect gift comes from above.” Adding a new life to a family is both a tremendous gift and sobering responsibility all at the same time.
It is our joy and privilege to support parents as they embark on this wonderful journey called parenthood. One way that we accomplish this goal is through Parent-Child Dedication. This ceremony is typically offered during the third Sunday evening service of February, July, and November. Invitations are mailed approximately three weeks in advance, and our Pastoral office requests that at the time of dedication, each child is between four and fourteen months of age, the child’s parents are married, and at least one of the parents is a member of Olive. Although the dedication service does not symbolize a child’s salvation, it is a public commitment between a husband and wife unto God and His church to rear His amazing gift according to the principles found in His Word.
