Dr. Ted Traylor came to be the pastor of Olive Baptist Church in November 1990. At his request, the church family prays for this scripture to be a reality in his life. That verse is the outline of pastoral ministry at Olive Baptist Church.

His weekly radio and television ministry, At the Heart of Things, reaches thousands of homes along the Gulf Coast region. Dr. Traylor's bold and practical preaching brings people to a fresh understanding of God's Word and challenges them to become bondservants for Christ.

He is known for his uncompromising stand on Biblical issues and strong defense of the Christian faith. In addition to serving as First Vice-President of the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000 and President of the Florida Baptist Convention in 1995, Dr. Traylor served as President of the Southern Baptist Convention's 2004 Pastors' Conference. He has preached extensively throughout the United States in seminaries, conferences and revivals. He and his wife, Liz, have two children, Rachel and Bennett.

Four Pastoral Functions to Consider

Exposition—True instruction comes from Biblical preaching and is the beginning point of all ministry.

Ethics—Living correctly is a must in pastoral ministry. The call to holiness leads our church to influence the lives of our members as well as those in our community.

Encounter—Walking with God is central in the life of a Christian. It is the aim of our pastoral ministry to develop mature believers who know God in an intimate relationship.

Evangelism—Turning people from sin to God is a joy and responsibility of a Christian. At Olive, we take the great commission to heart. Our desire is to touch the world in Jesus' name.
