Grief Support

Kim wants to connect with you

At Olive, it’s not enough to just fill out a form and hope someone gets back to you. The church is built with people, and that’s why we value you as an integral part of this ever growing kingdom. Give Kim a phone call to see how you can plug into our grief ministry.

Griefshare

New Session Begins on May 21

Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm

Olive Counseling Center
1830 E Olive Road

Anyone is welcome any time.

It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member or friend, you’ve probably found there are not many people who understand the hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before. Grief Support helps you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life.

This is a weekly support meeting for those grieving the loss of a loved one. Each session consists of a video, group discussion, and a workbook. Meetings are held once a week for thirteen weeks.

What is GriefShare?

GriefShare is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. We understand that there are other losses in life that create feelings of grief. You might be experiencing a job loss, a divorce, estrangement from a child, or the loss of friends because of a move. This grief is real, but it is not the kind of grief discussed in GriefShare sessions.

This support group is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. Anyone is welcome to join us at any time. The workbook we use is from GriefShare. You can go on their web site at www.griefshare.org to see more details about the curriculum.

We meet weekly for 2 hours each meeting for 13 weeks. This is a volunteer facilitator video led group meeting. After viewing the video, you and the other group members will spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in your lives.

If you are in need of personal help or need immediate assistance, you can contact our Counseling Center at 850.473.4461 to make an appointment or click the button below to contact Angela Tinker.

PURPOSE

The Grief Support Ministry is designed to help you recover from the deep hurt that comes with the loss of someone close to you. Grief Support Ministry includes three key elements to help you in the healing process:

VIDEO

At each session you will view a video on an issue related to grief and loss.

SUPPORT GROUP

Everyone will watch a video together. Afterwards there will be an informative, facilitator-led discussion about what was seen on the video and what is happening in everyone’s lives. You can choose to participate in the discussion or allow the facilitator to bring this information to the group. Each group carries its own dynamics, which changes from session to session.

BETWEEN SESSIONS

• Personal Reflections: between sessions, you'll have time to reflect on what happened at your group meeting and how the concepts you discussed might apply to your personal circumstances.

• Personal Study: Each week, you will have the opportunity to work through a section in a workbook at home. It will lead you to some relevant and practical portions of the Bible and guide you through a personal evaluation of how these verses apply directly to your situation.

PLANNING GUIDE

The planning guide is a small brochure for you to fill out and keep until the time of your departure from earth. It serves as a guide for the speaker at your funeral and contains questions about your salvation, your favorite scripture, and what you would like to be remembered for. Print a planning guide from the below pdf file and fill it out on your own.
